Invisible Women. Gender equality in the field of migration and integration of migrant women in Slovakia

The seminar on migrant women draws attention to the need to address the situation of migrant women in Slovakia and their gender equality.

November 22nd, 2021, 9:00 - 12:30
Goethe Institute, Bratislava

Although the covid-19 pandemic has significantly worsened the situation of women and girls, and especially those from migrant communities, the situation, expectations and needs of migrant women in Slovakia are issues that go unnoticed. The main political instruments in the field of migration and integration do not significantly reflect this topic and at the practical level they lack data, research, measures and plans concerning the equality of migrant women in the Slovak Republic.

Migration and integration policies do not use gender-sensitive language. Research on the situation of migrant women in Slovakia is more than ten years old (2009, 2011). Statistics on stays are also gender-blind; we will find out the most information from publicly available sources only about the number of foreigners working on the Slovak labor market, of which there are 19,408 as of September 2021.

Our goal is therefore to open a discussion on the importance of drawing attention to the situation of migrant women in Slovakia and their gender equality. We would like to offer examples of inspirational activities and approaches in the region and open a discussion on short-term and long-term measures that we could implement on this topic in the coming years.

Important info:

The seminar will take place in person. Your safety is extremely important to us and at the same time we want us to be able to talk about the topic in person. Therefore, we have chosen a regime for the seminar, where participation in the seminar will be allowed only to persons who submit a certificate of vaccination/covidpass on vaccination against Covid-19 virus. The organizer of the event will check the confirmations upon entry and at the same time it is necessary to make a list of all present persons within the presence. All persons present must wear a respirator throughout the seminar. We believe that in this way we will protect ourselves as much as possible and at the same time we will have the opportunity to discuss the topic of migration and integration in person after a long time. We look forward to welcoming you to the seminar!
