Integration Forum

Social innovation, new technology and good food. These are words we mostly do not associate with refugees, Roma, or homeless people. We decided to change that.

In many countries, there already exists successful businesses connecting people from disadvantaged environments to the modern age. Technology companies around the world have teamed up with the Techfugees initiative, collaborating with refugees to develop technical solutions that make life easier for them. The Habibi and Hawara Restaurant was established in Vienna, where refugees cook delicious Viennese cuisine.

Similar initiatives also exist in Slovakia to improve the wider society and give a chance to the disadvantaged. These initiatives are carried out by active social innovators, whom we will introduce on 12 and 13 October in the Kocurka Tabacka Kulturfabrik. You can find the program here or download it below.

Watch these videos to be introduced to the organisations attending this Integration Forum.

The Integration Forum was organised by the Human Rights League for the fourth time, taking place in Košice for the first time this year. At this forum, governmental authorities, non-governmental organisations and other refugee workers get together to exchange experiences and discuss new solutions. We decided to hold the Forum in Košice this year and open it to the public in order to come in contact with interesting initiatives and community projects. Our hope is that this Forum will show another dimension of refugee work, one where talented and passionate people come together with innovative ideas and refuse to stay indifferent to the situation around them.

One of the aims of the Forum was to produce recommendations for policy-makers. We have sent these recommendations to the Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and the Family of the Slovak Republic. The document can be accessed on the Slovak version of the website.

The Forum was organised with the financial support of the Ministry of Justice of the Slovak Republic. The funds were used for the promotion and protection of human rights and freedoms and for the prevention of all forms of discrimination, racism, xenophobia, anti-Semitism and other manifestations of intolerance. The Human Rights League holds sole responsibility for the content of this document.
